Responder

Responder is an illuminated, site-specific sculpture for the Hidden Valley Fire Station in Charlotte, North Carolina, inspired by the role of communication in emergency response. Drawing from conversations with fire station personnel, the artwork translates incoming and outgoing communication signals into layered ripple patterns that form a dynamic biconical shape, evoking both a megaphone and a siren. Integrated lighting activates the sculpture at night, casting shifting shadows through perforated surfaces and reinforcing themes of readiness, listening, and rapid response, while serving as a welcoming landmark that reflects the mission and identity of the fire station.
